Good Show by the Devils

The Stellar Devils recorded their best away score of the season and indeed were giving Kent a good match today until the last three heats when the Royals pulled away, winning 55-35.

Upbeat team boss Alan Budzynski said "It was a lovely sunny day and the track looked in good nick. With 5 heats or so to go I thought we were in with a chance but in the last 3 or 4 heats Kent's more experienced riders were too good.

"We put up a good fight, I was proud of the boys. Everyone put in the effort and the final result doesn't show how close the match had been. Kent were appreciative of our efforts.

"Lee had a fantastic fourth ride but his spark plug shattered and he couldn't ride in the final heat, so I put Tom and Danny out. Our agreement is the top two take heat 15, but if the match had depended on it we would have got Lee out somehow."

Devils' heat leaders all recorded race wins, as did Josh Embleton who won heat 8. Although they trailed by 8 points at heat 4, they maintained that position up to heat 12.

However there was no pegging back Morley and Clegg, both currently scoring heavily at Championship level, and the last three heats were all 5-1s in favour of Kent.

Devils have just one away match remaining, a short jaunt to Plymouth on a date to be decided, plus home matches against Belle Vue and Leicester.
