Devils Well Beaten In Mildenhall Shambles

REPORT Sunday 17th July 2022, 6:37pm

by Graham Muncie

It was another heavy defeat for the Stellar Devils on Sunday this time going down 60-27 at Mildenhall but sadly it was a day where the score line was secondary to a shambles of a meeting that saw at least one faller in more than 2/3rds of the heats on a track that was poorly prepared before the meeting and was watered precariously as the meeting progressed.

This led to a lengthy delay after heat 9 as both camps and the referee Paul Carrington had a long discussion, the decision made to carry on but by this point the only concern was getting everyone home in one piece.

Sadly, this wasn't to be the case as Josh Embleton, Gregor Millar and Lewis Millar could not continue after spills for the Devils while Matt Marson also failed to get beyond his first heat. All the best goes out to all, and updates will follow although initial diagnosis is just knocks for the Devils trio.

This meant the Devils were down to 4 riders only by the end of heat 9 and while Lee Complin, Tom Woolley and Danny Phillips all had moments of glory with at least 1 heat win each there was literally no back up to turn any of these into advantages as the home men ran riot.

Elliot Kelly also had a day to forget returning to his old home track, his day being summed up by an engine failure while leading heat 14 turning a 3-3 into a home 5-0.

For the hosts the individual scorecards will reflect a good day's work each of the 5 that finished the meeting recording at least 8 points and 2 wins or paid wins.

It has to be said though it was a wholly unsatisfactory day with a 3-hour 20 minute plus run time, far far too many incidents and 4 of the 13 riders who started failing to finish.

The Devils will just need to dust themselves down repair man and machine as required and look for better when they return to the track next month.
