Belle Vue Colts are Saturday visitors

NEWS Wednesday 16th June 2021, 1:00pm

It's Saturday Speedway at Armadale this week with a 2:30pm start, and a famous name in opposition to the Armadale Stellar Devils. No club in British Speedway epitomises the benefits of junior development better than Belle Vue (Manchester), as they have over the years produced riders who have gone on to be World-famous competitors.

For example former World Champion Peter Collins and World no. 2 Les Collins came through the ranks at Belle Vue, as well as many others throughout the sport's history. In more recent seasons Dan Bewley started with Edinburgh and the Belle Vue Colts. This year's crop of Belle Vue Colts come to Armadale on Saturday to race against the Armadale Stellar Devils. It's a long shot to say they might have a World Champ of the future in their ranks, but that is the dream of every rider setting out on the road to stardom.

League points are at stake and the Devils need them on Saturday, their record so far being one home win and one loss, plus two defeats away. They will be looking primarily to heat leaders Nathan Greaves, Tom Woolley and Danny Phillips and hoping particularly that early season sensation George Rothery can stay on his machine as falls in recent matches have temporarily halted his high-scoring exploits.

Looking forward to the match, Devil Danny Phillips says "I don't want to sound overly confident but I don't think it is going to be one of our most difficult meetings, although every meeting can be difficult! As long as we make the gate and ride as I know we can ride, I'm sure we will win it."

The Colts' no. 1 is Jack Parkinson-Blackburn who a few years ago was rated one of Britain's top prospects, but who took a couple of years out. He is back with the Colts (and also now at Newcastle) and hoping to reach past levels, as is Benji Compton who has featured in 8 previous Armadale meetings. Their third heat leader Connor Coles was a popular Monarch in 2019. Tom Woolley's brother Sam stands in for the injured Sam McGurk for the Colts.

As with all meetings at Armadale this match will be Live Streamed.

THIS WEEK'S MEETINGS:
